My Book Review on My Life with ADHD is a series of colourfully illustrated books for 6 to 9 year olds featuring real children with special education needs.
Meet Annabelle and her peers to understand the challenges kids with ADHD face, from difficulty focusing to speaking without thinking. This personal story shows young readers that ADHDers can have family, friends and interests like anyone else; and how, with help and hope, they cope and strive in everyday life. The author even includes a biography of Annabelle, bringing readers closer to her as a real person.
This read makes a positive and great starting point for parents to introduce their children to the concept of ADHD. For the kids themselves, it facilitates greater self-awareness and a sense of comfort that they are not alone. For others, it may help them practise inclusiveness from a young age (there are pointers on how to respect people with ADHD). As an adult with low attention span myself and just learning about ADHD, I found the brief content easy to digest and the illustrations helpful in painting a vivid picture of specific experiences that both child and adult ADHDers go through.
